GREEN PEOPLE’S ENERGY PROJECT - GIZ

Ho Technical University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the GIZ in the area of renewable energy dubbed the “Green People’s Energy Project” with a prime focus on capacity development in Solar Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS). The project, which is a component under the GIZ funded Green People’s Energy Project, is geared toward enhancing the capacity of experts on the installation of solar powered irrigation systems to boost agriculture production. As part of its contribution, the University made available an initial 4-acre land for the installation of the irrigation facility. Following the successful installation of a 143, 000.00 Euros Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) facility at HTU, several  solar system installers, technicians, field extension officers and  finance/credit officers have already benefitted from some training programmes under the HTU-GIZ SPIS Project. The Department of Agricultural Sciences and Technology is expected to cultivate some vegetables on the University farm using the SPIS technology.
